In these days of do more, be more, have more, get more, more, more, more, I am starting to make my list of LESS. Inspired by my kick ass gal Danielle LaPorte and her “Stop Doing List“, I am creating the possibility of space, or as Danielle says “white” in my life. As she so beautifully puts it, what I am going to STOP doing is just as important as what I am going to start doing. (Yes, Facebook friends, that means I am going to have to stop spending so much time on Facebook doing NOTHING to contribute to my life or business)
My Stop Doing List includes the following:
- I will no longer think I can get work done sitting with my laptop in my bed or on my sofa. Never, ever works.
- I won’t have my phone out and *yikes* texting other people while I am with family or friends. That’s so selfish I can’t really believe I have to write that down.
- I will not accept unpaid gigs. My work is not a volunteer role. I will save the volunteering for Habitat for Humanity or the Humane Society.
- I will stop avoiding those “scary” emails or phone calls. I will have the hard conversations, and watch my life blossom because of it.
I also have a “Never Stop Doing” list. That’s the really yummy stuff of life like:
- I will continue to have a daily dose of chocolate and semi-daily doses of wine. I mean, life is good.
- I will always listen to music while I write. It’s my zen.
- My family will always come first, no matter what.
This list is a work in progress over the coming weeks leading into the Most Amazing Year: 2012. What are you committed to stop doing, to leave behind? Also, what can you never ever do without? Get clear and share – and then tell me to put my phone away 🙂
