I’m keeping it super simple today and bouncing off of my rant about crowdsourcing I sent out yesterday.
People – you’ve got to get off of the social medias and get to work (now, if you are a social media manager, I give you a bit of a pass. But even (especially) you know when you aren’t being productive anymore)
Yes, network. Yes, promote your shiz. Yes, hustle in that little online world. Yes, love on your community.
But don’t think for one second that scrolling thru your newsfeed and stalking your college boyfriend qualifies for any of the above.
Why
Just 30 minutes a day wasted scrolling thru cat photos and getting in heated comment debates about the best flavor of ice cream (clearly, it’s mint chocolate chip. dilemma solved.) equals 180 hours in a year (assuming a few days completely offline here and there). That’s 7.5 days of your life completely gone.
Personally, I’d rather be here:
Stay Focusd is a Google Chrome extension that is meant to save you the beach time and, well, keep you focused. Set it up with the sites you want/need to avoid, the maximum number of minutes you want to spend in total on those sites each day, and Stay Focusd will kick you off when your time is up.
You could also use a timer or clock or, ya know, restraint. But since most of us really can’t manage any of that, Stay Focusd is here to help.
What sites are you adding to your list? What other tricks do you have to stay off of mind-sucking sites and keep your head in the game? Let me know in the comments below.
