Have you ever tried to use your mouse with your left hand? Or type with one hand, alternating back and forth from left to right? These are some super fun new skills I have developed over the past two months since little E was born. See, I now have two babies.
Eleanor – my gorgeous wonderful newborn girl who loves to snuggle, won’t be put down for more than 20 minutes, and has completely stolen my heart away.
and
My Biz – this incredible almost two year old adventure of coaching, implementing, training, and supporting. Oh, and writing. Yes, the writing.
Both of my babies need me. AND I need and want them. When my days are 100% Eleanor, I miss my business. It’s a part of me and it feeds my soul. The writing especially. I must make time for the writing. When I spend a few hours away from my little girl, I long for her in the special part of my soul reserved just for her heart.
Soon my days will fill up with client work and emails, blogging and marketing, conference calls and team building. And I absolutely need to fuel that part of me that Eleanor just can’t fill. It’s the part that started this biz. It’s the part that strives for us – for the life I always wanted to live. It’s the part that makes me a better mom.
So, the point of this email (written, by the way, on my iPhone in bed while E slept on mychest snoring little tiny baby snores) is that the elusive “balance” IS a thing. It’s filling all of the parts of your soul on the regular. Every day you have a choice – you actively participate in choosing how to spend your time. Some days will feel like nothing is done. Some will leave you feeling like a freakin’ rockstar. And some will feel like the perfect balance of both.
Here’s to more of those days. Where the dishes aren’t done but your clients are happy. Where there are still a few unread emails but bedtime included a few books read by mommy. Where an evening yoga class took the place of crashing on the couch with a stiff drink. Where each part of your soul is touched throughout the day and you are a better human for it.
Here’s to better. Now go get in touch with your soul.
