Even when I was asking for directions in my high-school-broken-Spanish and they were patiently replying in their much-more-eloquent-English, THEY were the ones thanking ME. (Were they thanking this crazy American girl for understanding what they said so they could go on with their day? Most likely. But they were thanking me regardless.)
Let me tell you something: in our little modernized give-me-everything-I-want-right-now-because-I-said-so society, gratitude is slipping right out the back door and making a run for Greenland. When did saying thank you and telling people they rock become reserved for Thanksgiving dinner stories? YOU have soooo much to be grateful for, on the daily.
Note: We are freakin’ spoiled. Even if it seems super hard all the time I guarantee you that if you are reading this you have a whole ton of things to be grateful for. Start with that smart phone or computer you’re staring at right now and go from there. Gracias, gracias, gracias.
I opened a package yesterday from my biz bestie Racheal with the absolute best Gratitude Train gift in the whole wide world:
Business and (maybe more importantly) LIFE revolves around gratitude. Yet it is often the last thing we accomplish. Did your team just launch that big project you’ve been brewing up for over a year? Thank them. Your parents drove 2.5 hours to have lunch with you just because they miss you? Tell them you think they are incredible. Extra double bonus points for a hand-written card.
Practice makes perfect and sometimes we need a reminder (or two) to make it a daily (not annual) practice. So little miss genius Suzi has some free desktop wallpapers she whipped up as her gift to you. Grab one right here (I have Mr. R.W. Emerson on my screen) and put it into action.
And now it’s your turn: how do you tell people they are incredible every day?
With x’s and o’s (and much gratitude for you being right here),
