To make it thru the long nights, the zero-days-off, the “am I seriously doing this?!”, I’ve made a few commitments. Wanna borrow ’em? Go for it. If they get you to your dream, I couldn’t be happier.
1) Family first. Always.
My email/website/voicemail/Pinterest can wait. When loved ones call, all else goes on hold. My multiple email accounts won’t be there to comfort me when I’m in need — give to the ones that will be.
2) Act with integrity.
Can’t get to something? Say so. Need to update a timeline? Communicate it. Want someone else to cook dinner? Ask. Basic integrity is doing what I say I’m going to do, when I say I’m going to do it. Advanced skills are knowing when I can’t and speaking up. Take it to the next level.
3) Love what I’m doing. Or stop.
Creating anything with my own hands is exhausting, exhilarating, inspiring, and can make me question it all. There will be hours/days/evenings when I don’t 100% love what I’m doing in that moment. I acknowledge that and let it go and know that, if that lack of fun exists for an extended period of time, I need to address it and stop what I’m doing. Being real is the only thing that is going to create more success.
4) Accept mistakes.
Even gods and goddesses are flawed (theirs were even fatal). It’s only a mistake if you don’t learn from it. Learn, grow, move on.
5) Celebrate accomplishments.
Have a glass of champagne, get a facial, take a yoga class. Did someone besides your dad sign up for your email list? Celebrate! Did your first product launch? Congrats! Make each moment one that matters and every moment will matter even more than you can imagine.
