When I was a kid I was a real rule follower. Stand in line, be quiet, do your homework, don’t eat the Playdough. I followed ’em all.
It was no surprise to anyone that I became a camp counselor at a young age. Counselor = rule enforcer. Count off, use your fork, don’t set that on fire, quiet time. And even when we “broke the rules” and played games that the campers would find hilarious (like having all of the counselors eat spaghetti for dinner with only large utensils like ladles and tongs and spatulas), I still followed the rules of the game by never giving up and diving in with my hands. I loved each and every rule and was there to make sure they were carried out.
My rule following days continued as a stage manager, event planner, coordinator, and retail manager. And, looking back on it after a recent post re: the rules by the genius that is Laura Belgray, all of the rules of the game were preeeeeety enticing to me as a new business owner.

Man, I was head over heels for the rules. And so many! And so specific! On the outside, entrepreneurship (especially as an online business owner) looks like a dream come true to a Type A Rule Follower like yours truly. (If you want to take a moment and say “Me too!” out loud, go ahead. I hear ya.)
[Tweet “It’s time to break all the rules.”]
And, as it goes with rules, they started to get broken. A missed week (or two) blogging, a failed group program, massive unsubscribing from blogs, a stagnant consultation rate. The rules, no matter how much I loved them and batted my big long mascara’d eyelashes at them, just weren’t loving me back. The rules became a bad boyfriend while I was busy writing my new last name in bubbly letters (with hearts! and curls!) on my notebook over.
After I-can’t-even-tell-you-how-many times those rules rejected me, I decided that I’m done worrying so much about all of the rules. Instead, I’m going to worry about just one rule: The Rule of YOU and ME.
YOU: want tutorials, inside scoop, and guides on how to create more by doing less.
YOU: are already amazing, you just want to know how to amplify your resources so you can keep on with that amazing thing you’re so good at doing.
ME: Nothing makes me more excited than giving all of that to you and more. In my own way. Get ready for super accessible guides, more behind-the-scenes goodness, and some in depth looks at the pieces that are gonna make you feel reaaaal profesh.
And less rules.
The Internet needs more rule breakers. Are you with me?
